Who we are

In 2007, at the age of 27 and newly married, Corey experienced what we later learned were 13 strokes (TIAs) that resulted in partial left sided paralysis. He was admitted to Brigham & Women’s Hospital for a week and was discharged without a known cause for these strokes. Corey was referred to a wonderful neurologist, Dr. David Greer at MGH who specializes in stroke in young adults. We are honored to call him a friend, and he is now Chair of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine and the Chief of Neurology at Boston Medical Center.

Corey suffered a second series of strokes in 2018; again, multiple TIAs, which lead to a diagnosis, Moyamoya disease. The only treatment for this disease is surgery. Corey would undergo two separate brain surgeries in the fall of 2018. Corey had bilateral bypass surgeries at Beth Israel Deaconess (BIDMC) in Boston by Dr. Christopher Ogilvy, who specializes in this type of surgery.  Working with Dr. Ogilvy, The Adult Moyamoya Center was launched 2020. The center is the first of its kind in New England and is dedicated to treating, supporting and advocating for adults with Moyamoya.
